North Wind offers an array of technical services to a variety of clients, including state and federal agencies and private industry. North Wind supports the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of River Protection, Office of Nuclear Energy, and Office of Environmental Management providing everything from management consultant support to project management services as well as communications, quality assurance, administrative, and nuclear safety support. North Wind has also provided technical services to organizations such as the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (IDEQ), the South Carolina Department of Transportation, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
The North Wind public involvement team offers expertise in a variety of public communication, education, outreach, meeting facilitation, and event planning services. The team is experienced in managing and facilitating citizen advisory boards; implementing public communication programs for federal, state, and local level projects; developing education programs for students and teachers; and implementing regulatory public involvement programs across the country. The team includes public involvement professionals as well as technical writers/editors, document production specialists, and graphic artists, in addition to as full information technology (IT) and web support.
North Wind provides services and solutions that help clients collect, analyze, manage, and report on spatial data. By implementing industry-leading technology and data integration techniques, North Wind’s geographical information systems (GIS) team offers the most accurate and efficient data analyses and presentation services available.
North Wind uses current GIS equipment and software when working on projects, which provides an enhanced field collection experience. Using remote sensing, aerial imagery, and special database development and analysis tools, we can provide the most accurate representation of a particular field site. In addition, North Wind is proficient in the use and integration of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) software, image processing, and Enterprise mapping systems. Other important services include spatial database development and analysis, geodatabase development with integration of non-spatial data, validation of data, creation of a chain of custody, and creation of metadata documentation.
North Wind is dedicated to the safety of our workers, our clients and the environment. North Wind continually sets high expectations for safety performance for all projects. We place a priority on having highly skilled and qualified safety professionals who continually promote a culture of safety in all we do. Members of our safety management team have certifications from either the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) and/or the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). They provide oversight, coaching and mentoring to all project specific site safety officers. All our site safety officers have completed 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and 30-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Construction Industry training. Members of our safety and health team often carry one or more of the following certifications:
Current and past safety and health support have been provided for various DOE sites, various U.S. Department of Defense projects for the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, and U.S. Navy, various U.S. Coast Guard sites, various USACE projects, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the U.S. Forest Service, and various other businesses (small and large) at locations around the country.
North Wind provides qualified personnel who offer expert consulting services in support of quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) activities, including:
North Wind Nuclear Safety Support personnel have a broad responsibility to assist in planning, directing, and administering all technical and operational aspects of the overall nuclear safety and environment, safety, and health (ES&H) programs and serve as a main point of contact for these programs.
These support personnel assess reports and monitor follow-up on findings of noncompliance and notices of violations and negotiate and coordinate issues pertaining to nuclear safety and ES&H actions with officials in higher echelons, as well as with federal, state, and local regulatory authorities. Nuclear Safety Support personnel serve as recognized experts in managing nuclear safety and ES&H issues and advising top management, supervisors, staff, and operating officials on matters concerning compliance and prevention initiatives.
North Wind provides highly specialized expertise in strategic planning, regulatory compliance, stakeholder interface, emergency management, and public involvement and dispute resolution aspects for the transport of radioactive materials, specifically waste. North Wind staff each has over 25+ years of experience in working for the DOE to plan for and carry out shipments of radioactive materials, including transuranic waste, spent (or used) nuclear fuel shipments, and low-level radioactive waste.
The North Wind team offers a time-tested strategic approach for the successful planning and operations phases of these sometimes controversial shipments. A long history with key players in industry, state, local, tribal governments, and federal agencies makes this team’s experience and perspective unique in the industry.
North Wind provides management consultant support to clients such as the DOE Office of River Protection. This support provides expertise to evaluate and develop options for dealing with top-level management and technical issues or concerns associated with high-profile projects. This level of expertise is commensurate with the types and complexity of issues encountered when managing the design, construction, and operation of facilities based on size, importance, and sensitivity. These management consultants have a thorough knowledge of industry-standard/best practices for project and information management, have nationally recognized expertise in solving problems dealing with an array of technical, financial, political, regulatory, legal, and management issues; and have expertise in chemical, nuclear, safety, or environmental management.
North Wind provides diverse Occupational Medical Services (OMS) to a variety of customers including federal and state government agencies, and commercial and private businesses. We have the capabilities and experience to design programs and manage health services directed towards defined populations for our clients. Our services range from medical surveillance, injury and illness prevention and management, health and wellness promotion, absence and disability management, healthcare data management, continuous quality improvement, loss and risk management, public health prevention and management, disease management, hazard control, fitness for duty, and health and productivity management.
