C-17 Flight Simulator Design/Construct

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska

The C-17 Flight Simulator project was designed and constructed as a two-story, 14,000 SF building. The purpose of the facility is to accommodate a C-17 Weapon System Trainer used in C-17 aircraft training. Support activities within the facility include classroom training, maintenance support, and administrative personnel. The project site required anti-terrorism/force protection and was designed to meet and/or exceed those standards. This facility was the first of several flight simulator training facilities to be constructed. To address the possibility of future growth, Weldin Construction and its teaming partners worked with the initial facility’s massing, proportion, and material selection to ensure functional integrity as a stand-alone facility in the short-term, as well as when it transitions into a large-scale “campus.”
