Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Abandoned Mine Land (AML)

Various Locations, California

Kelly Silver Mine was once one of the largest silver mines in California, operating into the 1940s. The Bureau of Land Management performed a Removal Site Inspection to identify potential safety hazards and determine if removal actions were necessary.

LBYD Federal actions:

  • Removed 3-4 feet of deep soil from residences
  • Consolidated tails around the Waste Rock area
  • Added sediment ponds where the peach strip is (see diagram)
  • Installed bisector swale to keep water from running onto the site from the north
  • Installed concrete channel around Waste Rock to divert flow from WCA into sediment ponds
