Auburn, Alabama
At 10,830 SF, Auburn University’s Jordan-Hare Stadium boasts the largest videoboard in college football history. LBYD structural engineers, along with a project team that included Brasfield & Gorrie, Conway & Owen, Infinity Sports Architect among many others, designed and constructed a new videoboard that is 435 percent larger than the previous board it replaced. Measuring a whopping 190 ft. wide by 57 ft. tall, the new videoboard stands at the south end-zone of the stadium and creates an exhilarating sensory experience for the fans and players. Weighing 50-tons, LBYD structural engineers worked diligently to design a superstructure that would support a videoboard of this scale. New designs resulted in a 12-story structural steel center tower that, along with four existing steel columns, that could resist the necessary lateral and gravity loads. Through the many challenges, the project was delivered on schedule and just in time for the start of the 2015 college football season.
