North Wind Receives Contract for Cleanup of Contaminated Soil in Northern Idaho
Idaho Falls, ID. May 30, 2008 North Wind Inc., an Idaho Falls, based environmental services company, announced it has been selected by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (IDEQ) as the recipient of a contract for environmental remediation of contaminated soils in the Coeur d’ Alene Basin.
Under the terms of the contract, North Wind will provide project management, engineering, and construction oversight of the Basin Yard Remediation Program.
As a result of past mining practices, soil has become contaminated in several communities within the Silver Valley. Typically, 350-400 residential and commercial properties are remediated each year totaling between 2 and 2.5 million square feet of remediation. These properties are excavated, then backfilled with either topsoil or gravel; then new lawn is planted. The costs of remediation average $20-25,000 per property.
North Wind’s work in preserving our environment is very important to me, said North Wind President Sylvia Medina. We are delighted to have this opportunity to support IDEQ in these crucial remediation efforts.
