16th Annual Sherwood Golf Tournament Raises More Than $19k
Idaho Falls, Idaho –North Wind Group is pleased to announce the 16th Annual Tom Sherwood Memorial Golf Tournament event was another huge success raising more than $19,000 for the Idaho State University scholarship endowment fund. The event was held July 21 at Jefferson Hills Golf Course in Rigby, Idaho.
“This year marks the highest participation and highest funds raised in the history of the tournament,” said North Wind President/CEO, Chris Leichtweis. “North Wind is proud to continuously support such a deserving scholarship fund, as we feel it is an important investment into the future leaders in our industry.”
The 2017 scholarship recipient is Serena Weeks. Weeks is a soldier in the US Army National Guard, and has three semesters left until she graduates with a B.S. in Biology with a concentration on ecology and conservation biology. After graduation, she plans to work for the Fish and Game or Forest Service.
“I am so grateful to receive this scholarship,” stated Serena Weeks. “While I have a career with the Forest Service or Fish and Game, I will work on getting my pilot’s license, and serving my required time with my unit for the United States Army.”
“The Thomas Sherwood Memorial Endowment has provided over $32,000 in scholarships to eighteen (18) Idaho State University students majoring in the Geology and Biology fields since its inception. “North Wind has provided a wonderful scholarship memorial in Tom’s name which has and will continue to be a huge contributor to these students, allowing them to focus on their education and future career goals. We are so appreciative and grateful of North Winds continued support and contributions,” said Debbie Green, MPA, Director of Scholarships, Idaho State University.
Tom Sherwood was one of North Wind’s first employees and was our Geosciences Department Manager until his untimely death in 2000. He was a consummate outdoorsman with a passion for geology and the environment. He graduated from Idaho State University in 1992 with degrees in geology and biology. The Thomas Sherwood Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by North Wind with contributions from the company, Tom’s friends and colleagues, and proceeds from this golf tournament. The tournament is one of the longest running and most profitable in Southeastern Idaho.
The tournament is hosted and sponsored by North Wind Group, Moxie Endeavors, Inc. and Idaho State University Foundation.
