North Wind Group is pleased to announce the 17th Annual Tom Sherwood Memorial Golf Tournament event was another huge success! North Wind ensures that golfers have an enjoyable experience while donating more than $20k to the Idaho State University scholarship endowment fund. The event was held in late July at Jefferson Hills Golf Course in Rigby, Idaho.

“North Wind and the supporting companies are proud to continuously support such a deserving scholarship fund, as we feel it is an important investment into the future leaders in our industry,” said North Wind President/CEO, Chris Leichtweis.

The 2018 scholarship recipient is Sarah Tetzloff. Tetzloff is a senior at ISU, and will graduate soon with a B.S. in Geology and a minor in Geotechnology. She works for the Museum of Natural History’s Education Resource office, and TRiO, a federally funded program to aid first generation high school students to get into college. While working with kids, she realized that she would like to work in a STEM outreach setting to show kids just how cool science is.

“I am very grateful to be selected for this scholarship and for the opportunity you have given me to continue and finish my education. It is because of people like you (North Wind) that give me the confidence to continue with my degree,” said Sarah Tetzloff, 2018 ISU scholarship recipient.

“The Thomas Sherwood Memorial Endowment has provided over $39,000 in scholarships to twenty (20) Idaho State University students majoring in the Geology and Biology fields since its inception in 2001. Annual interest earned from the endowment balance is used to fund the student scholarships. As additional contributions are added to the balance, including funds from this year’s tournament, we will be able to distribute more scholarship funds to an increasing number of ISU College of Science and Engineering students,” said Scott Snyder, Dean of College of Science and Engineering, Idaho State University.

Tom Sherwood was one of North Wind’s first employees and was our Geosciences Department Manager until his untimely death in 2000. He was a consummate outdoorsman with a passion for geology and the environment. He graduated from Idaho State University in 1992 with degrees in geology and biology. The Thomas Sherwood Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by North Wind with contributions from the company, Tom’s friends and colleagues, and proceeds from this golf tournament. The tournament is one of the longest running and most profitable in Southeastern Idaho.

The tournament is hosted and sponsored by North Wind Group with support from Moxie Endeavors, Inc. and Idaho State University Foundation.
