North Wind Captures Another VPP “Star of Excellence” Award
The superior commitment to safety earned North Wind Dynamics, LLC (NWD) national recognition at the National Voluntary Protection Programs Participants’ Association (VPPPA) Conference held in Washington, DC on August 22, 2022. Mr. Brad Davy, Director of Worker Safety and Health Assistance for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), presented the “Star of Excellence” Award to Mike Horton, NWD–United Steelworker (USW) VPP Representative.
This recognition is reserved for DOE VPP Star participants. To be eligible for the “Star of Excellence” Award, companies must maintain an injury rate 75% below the industry average as well as demonstrate safety excellence through community outreach and mentoring efforts. This is North Wind’s fifth “Star of Excellence” Award (the first being the Legacy of Stars Award) at the DOE Portsmouth Site.
NWD’s robust safety culture is demonstrated by the fact that the company has experienced zero lost workday cases or recordable injuries since North Wind won the Infrastructure Support Services contract in April 2016. NWD Project Manager Damon Detillion congratulated the company’s employees for earning the award. “Safety is thoroughly ingrained in the NWD work culture as demonstrated by each and every employee, making this fifth “Star of Excellence” Award truly earned.”
