WSTF Receives Green Zia Recognition

North Wind Customer White Sands Test Facility was awarded the Green Zia by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED). The program acknowledges and supports businesses or organizations with a vision and desire to move toward environmental excellence and long-term environmental and economic sustainability.

Green Zia criteria are based on the Malcolm Baldrige Business Performance Excellence Criteria and the Quality New Mexico program. It is the only program of its kind nationally that helps participants incorporate environmental decision making into core business practices.

There are three levels of participation in the Green Zia Program; Commitment Level, Achievement Level, and Excellence Level. WSTF applied for and was awarded Achievement Level. We were recognized with a certificate signed by Governor Bill Richardson and the New Mexico Environment Department Cabinet Secretary Ron Curry. WSTF also received an official Feedback Report which includes suggestions for improvement in areas of environmental sustainability.

North Wind employees Mary Canavan, Pam Egan, Stephanie Orr, and Patricia Valdez were primarily responsible for compiling, formatting, and submitting the detailed Green Zia application. Criteria for the Achievement Level recognition included management and organizational commitments to continuous environmental improvement; community leadership, customer, suppliers, stakeholder, and employee involvement in environmental improvement initiatives, environmental process management, and metrics documentation.
