LBYD Accepts Grand Award for UAB Genomics Building
LBYD is proud to celebrate our team’s recognition by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Alabama. The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Altec/Styslinger Genomic Medicine & Data Science Building received the Grand Award in the Structural Systems category.
Representing LBYD at the awards ceremony were Patrick Lyons, PE, Huntsville Branch Manager and Senior Principal, and Ashley Carden, PE, Senior Project Manager.
The award-winning project is a 175,000-square-foot, eight‑story, concrete-framed medical research facility located in the heart of Birmingham. This innovative effort transformed two existing 1960s-era structures, unifying them into a modern, state-of-the-art research environment. A newly constructed eight‑story addition further expanded the building’s capacity and functionality.
With an $80 million construction budget, the UAB Genomic Medicine & Data Science Building stands as a significant investment in Alabama’s biomedical research landscape—showcasing the power of adaptive reuse, advanced design, and collaborative engineering.
