Idaho Falls, ID
North Wind is excited to introduce the 24th Annual North Wind/Idaho State University (ISU) Tom Sherwood Scholarships and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Scholarship awardees—Auston Belfield, Wendell Bouwens, and Tyler Cotterell.
The Tom Sherwood Scholarship was recently awarded to ISU students Auston Belfield and Wendell Bouwens for $4,094.50 each. In addition to the Sherwood scholarships, North Wind is honored to announce the winner of the STEM Scholarship Endowment, which encourages ISU students to pursue further education in STEM fields. The third annual ISU STEM Scholarship was awarded to Tyler Cotterell for $2,233.
- Auston Belfield, a senior at ISU, is obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a concentration in Integrative Organismal Biology and a minor in Business Management. Auston aspires to help animals and humans coexist without negatively affecting one another. “This scholarship would truly help me accomplish my goal of a Bachelor of Science and a minor in Business and be able to help animals.”
- Wendell Bouwens, a senior at ISU, is obtaining a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Earth and Environmental Systems. Wendell’s love for the outdoors began when he was sixteen, while at the Idaho Youth Conservation Corps for a five-week camp. “One of my favorite quotes is your younger self would be excited to see where you are now.”
- Tyler Cotterell, a senior at ISU, is majoring in Computer Engineering.
Tom Sherwood was one of North Wind’s first employees and the Geosciences Department Manager until his unfortunate death in 2000. He was a skilled outdoorsman who had a passion for geology and the environment. He graduated from ISU in 1992 with degrees in geology and biology. The scholarship endowment was established by North Wind with contributions from the company, Tom’s friends and colleagues, and proceeds from previous golf tournaments.
