15th Annual Sherwood Golf Tournament Raises More Than $13k

check-photoIdaho Falls, Idaho – North Wind Group is pleased to announce the 15th Annual Tom Sherwood Memorial Golf Tournament event was another huge success raising $13,200 for the Idaho State University scholarship endowment fund. The event was held July 22 at Sage Lakes Golf Course in Idaho Falls.

“North Wind is proud to continuously support such a deserving scholarship fund, as we feel it is an important investment into the future leaders in our industry,” said North Wind President, Chris Leichtweis.

The 2016 scholarship recipient is Dane Coats. An Idaho resident, Coats is a senior at Idaho State University, currently working on a B.S. in Geology with the intent to pursue a M.S. further in Geology. In an essay, Coats said, “I keep myself grounded by focusing on finishing my undergraduate degree, and looking into further education in a master’s degree with studies related to volcanology.”

“Idaho State University is so grateful for the continued support of North Wind. Since its inception, the Thomas Sherwood Memorial Endowment has provided over $27,000 in scholarships to Idaho State University students majoring in the Geology and Biology fields. North Wind has provided a wonderful scholarship memorial in Tom’s name which has and will continue to be a huge contributor to these students and their future careers,” said Debbie Green, MPA, Director of Scholarships, Idaho State University.

Tom Sherwood was one of North Wind’s first employees and was our Geosciences Department Manager until his untimely death in 2000. He was a consummate outdoorsman with a passion for geology and the environment. He graduated from Idaho State University in 1992 with degrees in geology and biology. The Thomas Sherwood Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established by North Wind with contributions from the company, Tom’s friends and colleagues, and proceeds from this golf tournament. The tournament is one of the longest running and most profitable in Southeastern Idaho.
